Certainty-based Marking (CBM)

Based on strategies developed by Prof. Gardner-Medwin at UCL (London, UK).

The student does not only answer the question, but they also indicate how sure they are they got the question right using a 3-point scale: C=1 (low), C=2 (mid) or C=3 (high). The grading is adjusted by the choice of certainty so that students have to reflect honestly on their own level of knowledge in order to get the best mark. Certainty levels 1, 2, 3 always give students marks 1, 2, or 3 when they are correct. If they are wrong, then unless they opted for C=1 they will lose marks: -2 at C=2 and -6 at C=3.

Immediate Feedback Question Behaviour

Immediate feedback allows the student to check their answer immediately to determine if they are correct or incorrect.

Student can submit their response immediately during the quiz attempt, and get it graded. However, they can only submit one response, they cannot change it later.

Multiple Complexity Level Exams

TpLEARN’s Practice Exams have five levels Beginner (easiest) and Master exams (most challenging). When students complete and pass the exams at all levels, they will better pass the WAEC exams with higher scores.

  • Beginner Exams - 50% to pass, unlimited time & deferred feedback
  • Intermediate Exams - 60% to pass, unlimited time & immediate feedback
  • Professional Exams - 70% to pass, limited time & immediate feedback with CBM
  • Master Exams - 75% to pass, limited time & deferred feedback with CBM
  • Mock Final Exams - 80% to pass, limited time & deferred feedback

Students earn experience points as they progress through the practice exams.

As students progress throughout the course and take part in activities, they gain more experience points and these points relate to a set of levels. Students can view the current level and progress towards the next level. Ladder show the students in order of levels and experience points.

Badges help students indicate their proficiency level accurately online. Students earn a badge each time they complete and pass a practice exam.
